Original Articles

Original Articles are the most common type of paper published. There are no page limits, but it is important for papers to be concise: referees and editors may suggest shortening of any that are not, which may lead to delay in acceptance.

Checked Open Submissions Checked Indexed Checked Peer Reviewed

Peer Review Process

Submissions undergo a two-tiered review process. The editorial board for overall quality and interest screens them initially. Papers accepted for formal review will be sent anonymously to at least two independent referees.

Manuscripts are sent out for review electronically, and all correspondence takes place via e-mail.

Peer reviewers will have five possible options, for each article:

Accept manuscript (i.e. no need for any revision)
Accept after revision (i.e. accepted if the author makes the requested revisions)
Revise and resubmit (i.e. accepted or rejected after revisions have been made - paper will be sent out for another peer review round)
Submit elsewhere (i.e. if the manuscript is better suited for another journal)
Reject manuscript (i.e. if the manuscript is substandard)

In addition, papers may be rejected directly by the Chief Editor if judged to be out of scope or if scientifically or formally sub-standard

When asking for revisions, reviewers have two possible goals: to ask authors to tighten their arguments based on existing data, or to identify areas where more data are needed. Even formal revision may be required if the language or formalities is sub-standard. To facilitate rapid publication, authors are given a maximum of 2 months for revision. After 2 months, revised manuscripts will be considered new submissions.

Open Access Policy

Selcuk Journal of Applied Mathematics is published under the Open Access model and is therefore free for anybody to read and download, and to copy and disseminate for educational and research purposes. Articles accepted for publication in the Journal will be collated in issues published biannual, starting in the winter of 2000.

Authors who submit a paper must be able to certify that the paper is original work, has not been published before and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
In particular, authors are reminded that any of the following are considered to be serious breaches of scientific ethics, which will result in the immediate rejection of their paper:
• Submitting a paper to more than one publication at the same time.
• Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism.
• Personal attacks directed at referees, editors or other authors.

Plagiarism Detection: Selcuk University is a member of CrossCheck by CrossRef and iThenticate. iThenticate is a plagiarism screening service that verifies the originality of content submitted before publication. iThenticate checks submissions against millions of published research papers, and billions of web content.

Selcuk Journal of Applied Mathematics uses iThenticate to screen all submissions for plagiarism before publication, but authors, researchers and freelancers can also use iThenticate to screen their work before submission by visiting http://research.ithenticate.com.

Errata are short corrections to previously published papers. Errata may only be submitted by the authors of the original paper, and should be used to correct errors which may lead to significant misunderstandings or incorrect conclusions. Errata should be prepared in the same way as other papers, with the following exceptions:

The title should be ‘Erratum: [original title]’. In most cases the author list will be the same as the original paper.
There should be no abstract. Key words should be the same as the original.
The first sentence should identify the original paper, which should be followed by a description of the error. There should be an explanation of how the error arose, what needs to be changed (e.g. replacement figure or table, new text), how these affect the conclusions of the earlier paper, and the erratum should finish with any references. See errata published in recent volumes of the journal for examples of the format.
When submitting on the Online Submissions, select Erratum as the manuscript type, enter ‘Erratum’ instead of an abstract, and in the cover letter quote the original article ID and give a one or two sentence explanation of why an erratum is required.

Publication Frequency

Articles in Selçuk Journal of Applied Mathematics are published biannual in Winter-Spring issue (June), Summer-Autumn (December) issues. Original research results in various fields of computational or applied mathematics are considered for publication. The publication language of the journal is English.

For Authors

1. Submission

  • It is understood that when submitting a manuscript the author confirms that it has not been previously published or is being considered for publication elsewhere.
  • New manuscripts must be submitted electronically via online submission at http://sjam.selcuk.edu.tr/sjam/about/submissions#onlineSubmissions. Paper or email submissions are not accepted.
  • The publisher strongly encourages the electronic submission of manuscripts written in Scientific WorkPlace, AMSLaTeX or LaTeX2e. In addition to the TEX file and include the PDF file of your paper in submission.
  • By the journal policy, a contributor cannot submit more then three papers in two years.

2. Language

  • Manuscripts must be written in English and must meet common standards of usage and grammar.

3. Title

  • The first page of manuscript should include the title of article, author’s name, affiliation, e-mail, and postal addresses and suggested running head (condensed version of the title) which should not exceeded 60 characters. The main title should not include mathematical formulas.

4. Abstract

  • In order to render the abstract in HTML, the use of mathematical symbols should be minimised. The abstract should not included numbered equations, theorems, references etc. The body of the manuscript should be preceded by an untitled abstract (maximum length 200 words) which should be a summary of the entire paper, not of the conclusions alone, the abstract should be followed by a list of not more than six key words, one to six classification codes from the Mathematics Subject Classification Scheme (MSC2010) at http://www.ams.org/mathscinet/msc/msc2010.html.

 5. Article Format

  • All figures and tables must be centered and labeled. The position of figures should be clearly indicated in the manuscript and attached in a form suitable for direct reproduction. Preference is given to figures produced in EPS or PDF format. Bitmap formats may be acceptable (in this case we would prefer JPG or PNG) if their resolution does not preclude high quality print reproduction.
  • All equations, theorems, tables, figures should be referenced as in “Refer to Figure 3.2”, or “… this concludes the proof of Theorem 3.1”.

 6. References

  • Bibliographic references should be numbered and listed at the end of the article.

 7. Submission of Final Version

  •  Like other journals, SJAM has its own style for numbering of theorems, etc. which, it is assumed, that authors will accept once they submit their paper to this journal.
  • The text of articles may be submitted in any common version of TeX including LaTeX 2.09, MiK TeX (Click (http://sjam.selcuk.edu.tr/sjam/manager/files/SjamSample.zip) to download a simple article)

8. Copyright

  • Once a paper has been accepted for publication, authors are assumed to have the copyright transferred to Selçuk Journal of Applied Mathematics.
  • Upon acceptance of the manuscript ("the work") the author(s) will transfer to Research Center of Applied Mathematics, Selçuk University (the publisher of "SJAM") absolutely the copyright he or she may have in the work.
  • The author(s) will be required to state that they own the copyright of the work to the extent that they can effectively give the above transfer free of any title, or other claim, of any third person.
  • The author(s) shall not publish the work in any other journal, whether electronic or otherwise, in the same or substantially the same form as the work, without acknowledging prior publication in this journal.
